Are You Ready for the Next Big Cyber Attack?
What went wrong? This is the question many people in the Equifax organization are asking today. How did hackers gain access to over 143 million U.S. customer records for over two months with no detection? Now, what do you do?
This is a worst case scenario that no organization wants to face. Could this have been avoided? While yet to be determined, this is just another case of a long list of cyber hacks that should make you look at your organization and ask yourself – are you prepared?
Manufacturers are producers of critical infrastructure and other goods that keep our country and economy moving forward. Whether B2B or B2C, manufacturing companies have information on their partners, customers, vendors, and finances that must remain secure and out of the digital hands of cyber attackers.
MAPI and Deloitte collaborated on a study of cyber risk in the manufacturing industry and concluded that organizations should be:
- Secure – Take a measured, risk-based approach to what is secured and how to secure it. This includes managing cyber risks as a team and increasing preparedness by building cyber risk management strategies into the enterprise and emerging technologies as they are deployed.
- Vigilant – Monitor systems, applications, people, and the outside environment to detect incidents more effectively. This includes developing situational awareness and threat intelligence to understand harmful behavior and top risks to the organization while actively monitoring the dynamic threat landscape.
- Resilient – Be prepared for incidents and decrease their business impact by improving organizational preparedness to address cyber incidents before they escalate. This also includes capturing lessons learned, improving security controls, and returning to business as usual as quickly as possible.
