Council Director and Senior Economist

Donald A. Norman, Ph.D., is a Senior Economist and Council Director to the CFO and Finance Councils.

Norman writes extensively on a broad range of issues including the impact of energy prices on the economy, the determinants of investment, stock market valuations, benchmarking audit fees, and antitrust. He also compiles MAPI’s widely recognized research piece, the quarterly Survey on the Business Outlook, anhistorically accurate near-term indicator regarding business prospects for the manufacturing sector.

Norman’s experience includes economic research and teaching. Before joining MAPI, he was a research manager at the American Petroleum Institute, Staff Economist at the Federal Trade Commission, and lecturer at California State University, Long Beach.

Norman holds a Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA, an MBA from George Mason University, and an M.A. and B.A. in Economics from UCLA.
