June 1, 2012

The Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), a leading business research and executive education organization and advocate for manufacturing interests since 1933, announced the election of a new Chairman and Vice Chairman and two new members to its Board of Trustees.

Carlos M. Cardoso, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, Kennametal Inc. (Latrobe, PA), was elected to a two-year term as Chairman. John M. Stropki, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, Lincoln Electric (Cleveland, OH), was elected to a two-year term as Vice Chairman.

“We are proud that Carlos has accepted this important role with MAPI,” said Stephen Gold, MAPI President and CEO. “He is a national leader on manufacturing issues and is a widely respected industry spokesperson. Carlos has keen insight on the challenges facing the sector, leads with passion, and possesses an exceptional vision for the future of U.S. manufacturing. Likewise, John is at the forefront of issues and is well versed at assessing the economic landscape and envisioning the enormous potential of a vibrant U.S. manufacturing base. We are fortunate to attract two outstanding individuals to head our organization.”

Cardoso sees a vital role for MAPI.

“Manufacturing is a driving force in today’s economy and I look forward to leading the MAPI organization in finding innovative ways to promote the industry, initiate solutions, and transform the image of manufacturing in the U.S.,” he said.

Cardoso succeeds outgoing Chairman Timothy H. Powers, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, Hubbell Incorporated (Shelton, CT), who will remain as a member of the Executive Committee.

“We offer our highest gratitude for the time and effort Tim has provided MAPI as Chairman these last two years,” Gold said.

Helmuth Ludwig, Chief Executive Officer, Industry Sector, Siemens Industry, Inc., and Denise L. Ramos, CEO and President, ITT Corporation, were elected as Trustees.

“Helmuth and Denise continue a tradition of bringing emerging voices for industry and unique corporate perspectives to the MAPI Board,” Gold concluded.
All appointments are effective July 1, 2012.
